What Have You Done For Your Network Marketing Business Lately?

Updated: Dec 13, 2022

You joined a network marketing business. You look at the compensation plan and you dream of making millions of dollars like the men and women you see on the company website. You make a list of all your family and friends with the intentions of them joining your business. Your trainer tells you to invite a group of family and friends over to your home to have an in home presentation. People buy your product or service and some of your friends want to join the business. You are ecstatic that you made money in your business. Your belief level is at an all time high.

But then you start having a great deal of failures in the business. You talked to everyone you know that is in your phone listing. Now you are in the NFL club. You are in the no friends left club. People don’t answer your phone calls for fear of you talking about your business. Your family talks behind your back.

Family get-togethers are awkward to attend because your family has been ignoring your call and they think you will try to give them a presentation on why they need to get on your health program while eating thanksgiving dinner.

1. You don't know the character of a man until they get punched in the face.

When Mike Tyson was asked by a reporter whether he was worried about Evander Holyfield and his fight plan he answered; “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” We have a plan in our business to make calls to potential prospects until the first time the prospect tells you to stop calling them and hang up the phone on you. Your family might tell you that you are in a scam, your friends will tell you that you will fail and lose all of your investment. You have to realize that business is a numbers game. People who you think will support you won’t buy your product or join your business. People who you think will not support you will buy your product. Don't prejudge anyone. Also, figure out what your ratio is. Once you know how many people you have to present to, you will make money and recruit people to your business. Men lie, women lie but numbers don’t lie.

2. Living off your last win

I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I grew up in the Steel town where people in Pittsburgh hear how the epic “1970s” was. Pittsburgh was once named the city of champions. The Pittsburgh Steelers won 4 Superbowl victories in the 1970s. The Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team won a championship in 1979. All you hear in Pittsburgh is the 70s Steelers' success. They do not talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers failing to win a Superbowl for 30 years. I was very ecstatic when Pittsburgh won a Superbowl in 2009. We did not have to hear the same success story of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Many network marketers have success in the beginning of their career but are broke now. They continue to live off their last rank advancement while at the company conventions.

  • Do not get in management mode.

  • Continue to lead by example.

  • Do not tell your team to do anything that you are not willing to do.

If you are not growing, your business is dying. Network marketing business is a volunteer army.

3. Decide what is important before it becomes urgent.

Do what is important before it becomes urgent. Most marriages fail because they did not do what was important. Some people have to get emergency surgery because they did not take care of their bodies when it was important and routine. Do not wait until the last minute to save money for your future. What would yourself 10 years into the future say about you. This logic is important in your network marketing business. Many business owners struggle in their business because they have no network. If you would have built a network of people that like, know, and trust you before you needed them, you would never run out of prospects. Learning the art of getting referrals is a skill that every salesman and recruiter should know. Learning to get referrals from prospects will keep you from knocking on doors or stalking strangers with your business cards at Walmart.

4. Have clarity not clutter.

Successful people have different habits than unsuccessful people. Successful people write down their goals everyday. Unsuccessful people do not write down their goals. Not writing down your goals is one of the biggest mistakes you can make as a business owner. It's easy to get distracted from reaching your goals. You may not enjoy the hard task you have to do to reach your goals, so getting distracted by social media or getting a call from your spouse can take you off task. Write down your goals everyday and review them every night to stay on task.

5. Don’t be afraid of success.

Fear of success is the concern that once we achieve something new, we’ll be incapable of sustaining it or may suffer because of it. Most of the time, we’re not consciously aware of this fear.

Fear of success is the fear of change or consequences of success.

Getting a different position at a job may bring you anxiety. Now you have to facilitate the meeting every week. You may have to speak at the convention and you have a fear of talking in public. You may not want to be exposed when you are a leader. Having a poor work ethic will be exposed by your peers.

You have to work on yourself everyday. Your self esteem is a direct reflection of how you complete difficult day to day tasks in pursuit of reaching your goals. If your self esteem is low, you will not make the calls necessary to reach your sales and recruiting goals. Affirmations are important to your success.

6. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Most people have a chicken list when it comes to prospecting for new business. Winners will have negative feelings but do it anyway. Unsuccessful people will freeze up and tell themselves they will do it tomorrow. There are many acronyms for the word fear.

  • False evidence appearing real

  • Face everything and rise

  • Forget everything and run

You will be in the top 80% of your company if you fight through your fears. Most distributors are psa (professional seminar attendees). Increase your self esteem right away by repeating that you like yourself. The prospects are not saying no to you personally because they don’t know you.

Do what you fear and the feeling will disappear.
