As an entrepreneur, you are competing with many other businesses - all vying for the attention of the same clients you are. In the world of online marketing you need to be able to engage with your audience and potential clients. No matter what marketplace your business serves, you should always be focused on getting email addresses and or phone numbers.
It's all about the exchange. You need to be able to exchange something with your clients and potential customers, for their email addresses.
You might think, I have an online boutique selling flowers or handmade jewelry, and so you don’t need to be concerned with creating a good freebie.
However, every savvy business owner understands the importance of getting email addresses from their clients and potential clients.

Email addresses are the new currency for online marketing when it comes to leveraging your business. While social media posts are extremely helpful to grow your business and increase sales, you still need a way to connect with your clients and reach potential clients on a consistent basis.
Having email addresses for your clients allows you to be in communication with them - directly.
In order to garner email addresses, you need to provide your clients and potential clients with something of value for exchange of their email addresses. That is where your valuable Freebie comes into play.
Here are some key components to creating a valuable Freebie that will encourage your clients and potential clients to share their email addresses.
Remember, people are not always keen on giving their contact information.
Your Freebie should be
BENEFICIAL - Whether you are sharing a checklist or a coupon code, your Freebie needs to be helpful to others. It has to be something of value that will entice people to share their email addresses with you.
ACTIONABLE - A good Freebie encourages others to take action. Going back to the coupon code example, you can ask people to share their email addresses in exchange for a discount on your product or services. The discount can be % or dollar amount. Or maybe your Freebie can be a free discovery session if your services are coaching, insurance or similar.
TANGIBLE - Your business Freebie should provide something tangible those who give you their contact information.
Physical tangible -
you can offer a small item/product that is of nominal value. It can be a trinket like a keychain with your business information.
Time tangible -
if you are a coach, trainer or similar, you can offer a free discovery call or video meeting in exchange for the contact information. Remember, your time is valuable so keep the meetings to 30 minutes or less. Use the discovery call/video to garner pain points or needs of your potential clients/customers. Use the information as a spring board to share your services.
Digital tangible -
Another marker of a good Freebie is that it gives people a good/service that they can reference in the future with helpful information and clickable links. We like to provide PDF files for most of our Freebies. Printable Freebies are great because you can provide helpful information - checklists, guides, templates - and you can use that as a way to market your business as well.
Each time someone references your digital tangible Freebie, they should see your business logo, colors, fonts and contact information. It is continuous marketing!
Here’s an example of one of our most popular Freebies! It's our BUSINESS BRANDING ROAD MAP (to get full download click HERE)
Our BUSINESS BRANDING ROADMAP Freebie offers value to those who download it. Every business needs to have a branding plan and guide. To read MORE about small business branding, check out our full blog post here.
Notice how the Freebie also has ACTIONABLE steps and has ACTIVE links for clicking. Having active links in your PDF files is so helpful and makes it much easier for people to take action from your PDFs. In any way possible, you want to decrease the resistance between thought and actions. If your clients have to take extra steps to access the link information you are sharing, they are less likely to click and TAKE ACTION.
Finally, the Freebie has a tangible digital download - the full length PDF version - that can be printed off as well - is 13 pages long. So when someone decides to access the Freebie, they are willing to trade their email address for 13 pages of helpful information. Great bargain!
