Let’s talk about it. You have written the perfect email. You are excited and eager to share the information with your email community. You spent time choosing the right wording and have captured your message in its best form.
Believe it or not, now comes the hard part.
It can be extremely frustrating as a small business owner and entrepreneur when your emails go unopened. Most email hosting providers allow you to specifically see and track the engagement of your email campaigns. So whether good or bad - you see it all!
Currently, we use the premium package for business via Wix for all of our email campaigns. All of our business email addresses are hosted by Bluehost.com.
— BTW (by the way) if you are not using a specific business email address when reaching out to your clients and potential clients you are doing your business a disservice. One of the first ways people verify the credibility of a business is by their online presence, email addresses included. My years of experience as a business owner and consumer have proven that if a business contact email is - @gmail, @yahoo, @aol for example, I am less likely to take the business seriously and I have lowered my expectations for their services.

Ouch, that might have hurt a bit, but if you are going to put the effort into your online business presence, and draft amazing emails to your email community, then you owe it to your business to present your services in the most professional way.
Having a professional email address will set your emails apart from the hundreds of other emails that make their way into the inboxes of your customers and clients.
Frankly, investing in a business email address is a small price to pay when you consider the importance of your email community.
Alrighty, now that we have the awkward part out of the way, we can deep dive into my formula for creating ACTION DRIVEN email subject lines.
Yes, you want your email subject line to evoke a response of ACTION. The ACTION being - OPEN.
THE 8 CATEGORIES OF EMAIL SUBJECT LINES
Curiosity
GOAL- pique their interest. You want them to read your email subject line and feel a sense of wonder and question. Usually these subject lines begin with ‘Did you know… or ‘Have you seen this?’ Another way to create curiosity is to just come out and say, ‘I bet you don’t know… [then give a specific detail that most people might not know]’ or ‘[Product] is waiting for you’.
F.O.M.O.
GOAL - create a Fear Of Missing Out - F.O.M.O. No one likes to feel left out. You can use this human attribute to your advantage. An example of a subject line would read, ‘Hundreds of others already know this, do you?’ For a product based business, ‘Time is running out’ or ‘100+ women have gotten their [product]’.
Familiarity
GOAL - create a feeling of conversation, vulnerability and relatability. At times, being vulnerable in your own struggles can capture your audience via email subject line. Write Subject lines that are more relatable and show that you are human and flawed too! When writing vulnerable email subject lines, you want to succinctly share your own struggle(s) in an effort to genuinely connect with your email community. The goal here is to use the same pain point language that your community uses.
While most of us use our text messages and direct messages to communicate with our friends and family, some still use emails. This is where familiarity helps with email engagement in your business. For example, ‘Hey’ is a simple email subject line that will stand out among all the other emails in the inbox because of its simplicity and casual approach. Another example would be, ’Friend to friend, I need to tell you this’.
Answer Specific Questions
GOAL - to promise the answer to a pain point or highlight a desire or vacancy that most can relate to. Your email community is interested in your business and services for a reason. Your business either fulfills a dream or desire, addresses a pain point, or both.

Answer Specific Questions
GOAL - to pique the interest of your email community by asking them a question that they feel motivated to get the answer for. This technique is in the format of asked and answered. Meaning, you ask a specific question in the email subject line and then your email provides the answer. Example would be, ‘Can I help you with [pain point]?’ or, ‘Do you have issues with ‘
List
GOAL - capture attention by using numbers and lists. We have all become accustomed to snippets of information and lists. An email subject line reading, ‘5 ways to look younger’ is a strong subject line because it tells your audience exactly what they can expect and it addresses a generally widespread interest. Another example would be, ‘These 2 products will [ …and enter a product benefit].’
Provoking
GOAL - evoke an emotion. Any emotion as long as your email can deliver. Shock and awe are good ones. For example, a recent blog post on our website had the title, ‘ I ate dinner with the person who stole my identity for 19 years.’ That blog has done really well for our engagement because of the shock value. If you were to use that same title as an email subject line, ‘She fixed me dinner and stole my identity’ would more than likely have a high email engagement.
It is important to mention that as often as you can, shorten your email subject lines so that your audience can see as much of it as possible. 30 characters is an ideal number but not always possible. When possible, always put your more important, emotion provoking information as close to the beginning of your subject line as possible.
Educational
GOAL - give the promise of highly sought out information. Again, be sure your email delivers on your promise(s). An effective email line would read, ‘Here’s how to fix the leak,’. For product based services, an example would be, ‘How to use [product] to achieve [benefit].
