6 Tips for Creating Effective Social Media Posts

Social media is a large part of business marketing. A recent shift in the expectations of social media indicates that your followers are more keen on realistic and genuine connection; whereas in the past, social media platforms such as Instagram™ and Facebook™ were geared toward the illusions of perfection and make-believe.

Here are some helpful tips for higher social media engagement and genuine connection with your audience on social media.

These tips can be used across the board for any niche or marketplace. You can even layer the tips for more effect.

1. Be Genuine and Relatable

Your audience wants to know that what you are doing or showcasing, they can do it too. They want to see parts of themselves in your content. Yes, we always suggest making your posts look their best - lighting, audio and such - however, presentation is not the same as content curation. Even if you are in the beauty and lifestyle space, you are still going to gain more genuine followers when you show yourself, truthfully.

On account of how much social media has grown, and how many others are promoting and sharing, your audience is far more aware of overdoing and fake posts. Yes, show your best, however, do not over do it. Remember your customers and followers are REAL people. Even if you are not showing your face. You can still showcase your personality and your brand style.

Your content advantage - BE YOURSELF. No one can do YOU better than you.

2.Teach/How To...

Posts that teach us how to do something are always popular and get higher engagement. With education at our fingertips, people are always searching for steps: how to. You might be in the insurance market or hair care. Still applies.

Examples

Insurance - how to apply for [insert type of insurance] in 3 easy steps.

Hair care - how to protect your hair during winter months in 5 easy steps.

Don't overthink it. For YOU, the HOW TOs don't seem like a big deal. However, what is simple nature to you might be absolutely foreign to others. SHARE IT.

3. Entertainment

Laughter is a universal form of communication. Human nature is drawn toward being entertained. Try sharing a post that is entertainment driven.

No hard sales, no pitches. Simply making others laugh or appealing to their desire to be entertained. Static posts (still images) that are comedic or light hearted even can be very effective in creating effective content.

Consider a well lit behind the scenes (BTS) image or REAL LIFE post of you in your business space. People can relate to that [going back to point #1].

We also suggest focusing more on short video segments such as Reels and Facebook™, Instagram™, TikTok™ and YouTube™. To maximize the post, use a trending audio file or post style that you find funny, memorable or entertaining. You don't have to commit to learning a new dance move [unless you want to, then do it!]. You don't even have to make it extremely fancy. The goal is to connect with your audience- genuinely.

There are lots of posts on the internet showing how you can find trending audio. So just do a quick google search, if you aren't familiar.

4. Emotional or Vulnerable

Going back to the first tip given, people are more keen on seeing the 'real life' side of social media - not just the perfectly curated videos and photos. An easy way to genuinely connect with your audience and gain more meaningful followers is to share something that evokes emotions from readers and viewers.

Vulnerability in your posts and captions allows you to peak the emotional interests of your viewers. Social media posts with vulnerability gives way to increased relatability with your audience.

Most people can relate to missed opportunities, failures, set backs, heartbreaks, loss, insecurities, and other unfortunate life circumstances.

5. Inspirational

Everyone enjoys a success story! One where the good guy wins. Where the underdog overcomes. Where the last, become first. Where hard work and dedication wins in the end.

Before and after photos are always a hit! Weight loss transformation, skin care updates, home décor showing the process of creating a lovely space - start to finish.

6. Call-To-Action

Always tell your audience what you need them to do. Give clear and specific direction. We always advise our clients to add a CTA (call-to-action) on their social posts. Whether in the actual video image if possible, or add it in your caption.

Some common CTAs are:

Follow for more [business specific category]

Like and Comment if you [add something associated with your post]

Tag a friend [who needs this, who can relate]

Save this post for future reference
