Have you ever thought about changing your career? Some people state that going to work Monday through Friday feels like the groundbreaking movie Groundhog Day. The Movie Groundhog Day was about a narcissistic, self-centered weatherman who finds himself in a time loop on Groundhog Day, and the day keeps repeating until he gets it right.
What if you are in a time loop until you start working on your purpose in life? The length of a persons’ career will depend on the field they work in. However, over the course of a person’s lifetime, they will work an average 90,000 hours. Imagine working 90,000 hours in a career that you hate. Over the course of a typical 50-year employment stint, almost a quarter of a person’s time is spent at work.
That's why the threat of having a heart attack increases on Monday morning. The stress of returning to work and the start of a long week would seem like reason enough to dread Monday mornings.
In numerous studies of various populations over the years, scientists have discovered that deaths from heart attacks follow a pattern during the week. They occur at their lowest rates on weekends, jump significantly on Mondays, then drop again on Tuesdays.
Studies found that the risk of a heart attack was about 20 percent greater on Mondays for adult men, and 15 percent greater for adult women.

The average age a person changes careers is 39 years old. Workers may feel stagnated once they reach mid-career, as it could indicate that their careers are stagnating. This results in them making a career switch for a new job opportunity or business.
When people get older they change jobs less and less. Between the ages of 18 and 24, people change jobs an average of 5.7 times. The average number of job changes between 25 and 34 years old is 2.4. From 35 to 44 years of age, the average decreases to 2.9 jobs, and then to 1.9 jobs from 45 to 52 years of age.
Here is a list of 5 reasons why people change their careers.
1. Your skills, responsibilities, and tasks are not you at all.

People start a career for various reasons. You may be influenced to become a doctor, lawyer or engineer because you have a passion to help people. Most people find out that their career is not what they thought it would be. I have an issue with the way you start your career in these fields. You have to take out expensive loans and go to school for a long period of time. Once you graduate from college, you have a huge debt. At this point, most people feel stuck because they can not quit their careers due to the huge liabilities they have accumulated. Most people do not know if they will enjoy their career until they start working for a company. When you work for a company, you are working on the owner's dreams, not yours. There are lawyers who changed careers and got into the media industry because they were tired of being a lawyer. Find out what you have a passion for and go for it. Find a need in the marketplace that is parallel to your creative side. Once you fill that need in the marketplace with your unique creative product, you will become wealthy.
2. You have the feeling that your talents and abilities should be used in a more creative way.
Sara Blakely is the founder of Spanx, a brand of slimming undergarments launched in 2000. Sara invented Spanx in the late 1990s despite having no fashion, retail, or business leadership experience. Sara Blakely was once a door-to-door fax machine salesperson. Now, she’s known as the founder of Spanx, a billion-dollar company that sells undergarments, leggings, and swimwear. Sara invented Spanx out of her frustration with pantyhose. While hawking fax machines door to door in the Florida heat, 27-year-old Sara had to wear pantyhose—a dress code her employer enforced. While Sara liked the control-top element of the hosiery, she didn’t like the panty lines or the seam that showed through her open-toed shoes. She decided there must be a way to have one without the other. “Every person in their life has had a million-dollar idea,” she says. According to Sara, the biggest difference between a successful idea and a failure is whether or not one takes action”.

3. Your salary does not make up for the emptiness
Most people are stuck in their careers because they make a huge salary and they fear that they cannot make a multiple 6 figure income if they leave their career. You are scared to lose the lifestyle you have but your current job is making you miserable. Remember that you need to think of yourself as self-employed. You should always try to get trained outside of your job. Get a journal and write down what your goal is. Get a sheet of paper and try to write down 100 ways to achieve your goal. Most of your plans will be silly but you will get clarity from this exercise. Once you find out the plan to reach your goal, the next step will be creating an action plan. Once you have an action plan, than you create a date you want to reach your goal.
4. Despite the right choices you made in your career, it feels wrong
Some people will follow a career path because they are influenced by their parents or friends. Something in your spirit says “don’t do it”, but you ignore it. Why are you in your current career? Are you pleasing others? The question you should ask yourself is “is this where I belong”. I was influenced to start a career in law enforcement. I had a few family members that were in law enforcement so I thought that's what I should pursue. I had a change of heart once I started my internship at a local probation office. My mother wanted me to be in law enforcement. I felt guilty and I knew I would be letting her down if I decided to pursue another career. I found out it was her dream to work in law enforcement and she was living vicariously through me. Do not feel guilty that you want to start another career. Most people want to start another career but they don’t have the courage to make a change.
5. You’re not happy

Stress among workers is at an all time high according to Gallup poll report. Forty-four percent of employees experienced a lot of daily stress in the previous day. While almost half of the world's workers felt the burden of stress, working women in the U.S. and Canada region were among the most stressed employees globally.
A recent study of British workers showed that job satisfaction was the second most important predictor of overall life satisfaction. This is not a big surprise. If you’re unhappy, your job is one of the first places you should look. Your work life obviously seeps into your personal life, and if you’re feeling dissatisfied, perhaps a career change will give you something new to focus your energies on. There are a number of things at your job that could be leaving you unhappy such as the pressure, the long hours, your colleagues or the tedious work. If you’re not happy in your work environment and it is affecting you on a personal level, it might be time for a change.
